Structured literacy

Structured Literacy explicitly teaches systematic word-decoding strategies. It is simultaneously multi-sensory, structured, systematic, cumulative, direct, and explicit instruction, designed to teach the structure of our written language to people with dyslexia. Hardy Tutoring utilises Structured Literacy and has extensive experience with the Barton Reading and Spelling System.

Dyslexia

Hardy Tutoring focuses on students with language-based reading and spelling disabilities. Most of our clients have dyslexia, diagnosed or suspected. Our interventions are designed to teach dyslexics how to read and spell, and include coaching on essential academic and life accommodations.

Reading

Intense reading tutoring begins at the level of sound processing and progresses into accurate word reading. As the student learns to accurately decode increasingly complex words, rate and comprehension improve.

spelling

Hardy Tutoring is exceptional in their intense approach to spelling instruction. Research is clear that the most effective reading instruction is enhanced by deep training in spelling. Also, most adult dyslexics feel their spelling challenges are more visible and embarrassing than reading difficulties.

writing

Handwriting and written expression are usually areas of difficulty with our students. Hardy Tutoring offers support in both, often integrated into the reading and spelling sessions in most cases. Students with more pronounced difficulties may need additional sessions.

Remote tutoring

For our students located in far off places, we offer effective one-on-one remote tutoring services. We utilize technology and facetime sessions to teach students using the same methods that would be used during an in-person session.
